World Health Organization Regional Director for Africa
Dr. Matshidiso Moeti was elected as the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa in 2015, and was the first woman to take up that position. She leads the WHO’s regional response plan for Africa, which includes assisting countries develop national strategies and mobilizing experts across the region. Dr. Moeti is a public health veteran, with more than 40 years of national and international experience. She joined WHO’s Africa Regional Office in 1999 and has served as Deputy Regional Director, Assistant Regional Director, Director of Noncommunicable Diseases, WHO Representative for Malawi, and Coordinator of the Inter-Country Support Team for the South and East African countries.
