Mark David Hughes

Mark David Hughes is the executive director of Special Schools & SEN Services at Qatar Foundation. He has had a career spanning 42 years as an educator and leader of special education and disability services in the government, private, and charitable sectors.
From 2018 to 2022, Hughes was the executive director of Qatar Foundation's Awsaj Academy. Prior to that, he was Executive Head of the Cambian Group, one of the largest providers of specialist behavioural health services for children in the UK. He was previously Chief Executive and Principal at St. John’s School and College, and Director of Education at Livability, one of the pioneers of free school education and education for disabled children in the UK.
Hughes is a passionate advocate of the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities and learning needs. He supports every child’s right to receive high quality education in line with their unique needs and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
